Seattle Seahawks: Will Chris Clemons’ Return Be Triumphant?

Seahawks without Okung for 8 games

That said, it is a different world with modern medicine, Russell Wilson Jersey and players can now come back quickly from injuries that in the past might have ended their careers. It will be interesting to see how much Clemons plays and where he falls on the depth chart. He and Cliff Avril could theoretically be a deadly combination if both are healthy and able to get off the line, but that is not guaranteed. In addition, the Hawks will not necessarily be putting both players on the field throughout the game. On paper, the Jags should not represent a major challenge for the Seahawks. This may be an excellent opportunity to ease back into the NFL routine.

Seahawks take it ‘one game at a time’

Hes a big part of what we do on defense. Hes one of our leaders. Were excited for him to contribute with how hard hes worked to get back, Bryant said. Its going to be big, man. We really cant put into words how excited we really are that hes back. Notes: DT Jordan Hill was officially ruled out for the game with a strained biceps. … FB Spencer Ware (ankle) and S Jeron Johnson (hamstring) are both listed as doubtful. Carroll confirmed Ware suffered a high ankle sprain last week against the 49ers. …

No lie: Seahawks’ offensive efficiency must improve

All those guys can run-block well and Paul is no different. But just understanding what his strengths are, what his weaknesses are, and as long as we dont stay in one protection, then we can change it up on the defense. Were not going to give him help every play, were not going to leave him by himself every play, but theres just different things you can continue to do to give them different looks so they cant just tee off on your protections. With a dearth of talent up front, Bevell and Tom Cable are going to have to be creative the rest of the way. The offense The Hawks threw the ball well at Carolina and ran well vs. the 49ers, but they have yet to put together a complete game on offense. With games in Houston and Indianapolis looming, this would be a good time to put it all together and get some confidence. A fast start for Russell Wilson would be nice. He and the receivers have not been in sync early in games, and that could end up costing the Hawks the next couple of weeks.

Big favorite or not, Seahawks strive for perfection

Players have bought in, that much is clear when you talk to any of them and they repeat the same message their coach preaches over and over, but getting to that point took a little time and effort. “Yeah, guys are skeptical,” Carroll said. “You know, ‘Does he say that this week? OK. He’s said it for a few weeks, is he going to stick with it?’ And these guys have pounded with our mentality and the things that we think of to the point where I don’t think they think any other way now. “But it still takes a really acute attention to the detail of the discipline of this because you’ve just pulled so much in other directions and could be swayed so easily by following the build-up, the hype, and all of the enormous amount of information that’s out there; talking about our situations. So my biggest challenge is to keep their heads in this room and how we think and how we do things.” The results show it did take time for Carroll’s message to get across. The biggest reason the Seahawks are better now than they were in 2010 and 2011 is an upgrade in talent, but the performances of the Seahawks in the first couple of years under Carroll were much less consistent, particularly in 2010 when every loss came by double digits. Bad teams get blown out a lot; inconsistent ones get blown out some weeks, then knock off the defending champs in the playoffs another week.

The game carries some emotional overtones for the Seahawks, particularly on defense, as the new Jaguars coach, Gus Bradley, previously served as Seattles defensive coordinator. We obviously (have) to go out there and do our jobs effectively and hopefully shut them out, but its going to be tough because hes such a great coach and such a great friend to a lot of the guys on this team, All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman said of Bradley. Bradleys defense is rated in the leagues top 10, but the issues on offense have been compounded by injuries to quarterback Blaine Gabbert (hand) and top running back Maurice Jones-Drew (ankle). Gabbert will be replaced by Chad Henne, and Jones-Drews return is considered questionable. Despite Seattles 2-0 start, Carroll this week stressed the need to get better consistency from the offense. We have a lot of areas to improve in, he said. We hurt ourselves too much in the first couple games.

Sherman: No letdown coming for Seahawks

Playing the 49ers means everybody brings a sense of energy, Wilson said. The players do, the coaches do, the fans do. This one [the Jacksonville game] isnt the NFC West, so we have to make sure were ready to go. This team plays in the National Football League, too, so we have to make sure our mindset is right and this is a championship week, which it is. Carroll said he has emphasized the importance of the game, not the opponent, since he first arrived. For four years now, its getting these guys convinced of how powerful that is,” Carroll said, and how that gives you, in my opinion, the best opportunity to be highly consistent. We do not want our play to vary based on who we are playing. We want to play the very best every time out. Thats why we talk championship games.

n Cornerback Richard Sherman, named NFC defensive player of the week for his performance against San Francisco, said it will be an interesting challenge to play a Jacksonville team coached by former Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Gus is such a great coach, such a fun guy to play for, its going to be tough, Sherman said. He was constant energy, always a positive guy no matter what happened in the game. From the beginning of the season to the end, he was upbeat and high energy every single day. While Bradleys scheme at Jacksonville is very similar to the Seahawks, he said that Quinn uses more aggressive man-to-man coverage schemes, while Bradley plays more two-deep zone. The Seahawks announced Thursday they signed receiver Nicholas Edwards, a Foss High and Eastern Washington product, to the practice squad. INJURY REPORT Seattle Out: T Russell Okung (toe). Did not participate: RB Spencer Ware (ankle), LB Malcolm Smith (hamstring), DT Jordan Hill (biceps), S Jeron Johnson (hamstring).
